How Hangul actually works
Letters stack into blocks, not lines
Korean writes one syllable per block. 한 is ㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ arranged in a square. Once you see the block as three letters rather than one picture, reading is mechanical.
Consonant shapes are mouth shapes
ㄱ is the back of the tongue rising. ㅁ is closed lips. ㅅ is the airflow of an s. This is not folklore — it is how the alphabet was designed in 1443, and it makes the letters much easier to keep apart.
Vowels are one long line plus a tick
A vertical line with a tick on the right is ㅏ a. Add a second tick and it is ㅑ ya. Horizontal lines behave the same way. Two rules cover almost all the vowels.
Then read one real sentence
Hangul takes a day; reading at speed takes a few weeks of seeing it in context. Amiko shows romaja under every Korean line while you get there.
