    unexpectedly; to one's surprise

    他竟然认识我妈妈。

    To my surprise, he knows my mom.

  2. 难道 nándào
    could it be that...? (rhetorical)

    难道你不想去吗？

    Don't tell me you don't want to go?

  3. 到底 dàodǐ
    on earth; after all (in questions)

    你到底去不去？

    Are you going or not, after all?

  4. 恐怕 kǒngpà
    I'm afraid that...; probably

    恐怕要下雨了。

    I'm afraid it's going to rain.

  5. 顺便 shùnbiàn
    in passing; while you're at it

    我去邮局，顺便寄了封信。

    I went to the post office and mailed a letter while I was at it.

  6. 难怪 nánguài
    no wonder

    难怪他没来上课。

    No wonder he didn't come to class.

  7. 果然 guǒrán
    as expected; sure enough
